Together    by  Peter Gleeson

If we were together
I would send tigers
huge and orange
with razor claws
tame for only us
to protect you from assassins

You would take the solitude
the pain beneath my eyes
suck it from my body
sacrifice it to the gods of lust
brimstone tears washing away
the last of my blackened heart

I would pluck magic words
that speak of your beauty
from the tips of your fingers
the arch of your eyebrows
then inscribe them in words of gold

You would weave magic spells
speak the arcane words
still the passage of time around us
leaving us immortal, inflamed by our desire
we would burn our souls into empty husks

Together
we would be parents of a song
dark and wild to shake
the very pillars of the earth
