Off The Menu    by  Anne Holgate

Obsession's prisoner,
she preens
for an indifferent audience,
haunted by memories
of name-calling school yard savages,
words soaking through skin
to her bones.

As fingers of doubt
eliminate sanity,
she is consumed
by the edible mountain
of plastic food,
spreading its treasures
over the landscape
of her confusion,
her vomit flaring out
like a load of second-hand fireworks,

her disposable future
already arranged…
in a take-away box.
