Eve's Legacy    by  Ann Davis

I witnessed it
that subtle moment
when your features
defined themselves
from childish curves
to sculpted womanhood

a young god
delivered Pizza
and you
were suddenly astute
as wise
as any woman
ever was

we became a tableau
fit to grace the walls
of any gallery
he proffering the box
me digging for change
you, changeling,
breathtakingly aware
a faint hint of colour
ripening your cheeks
like a blush
on a green apple

my mere presence
cast me as serpent
in your garden

and he
gormless as Adam
turned away
denying you
         and opportunity

reducing this take-away treat
too your first meal in exile
